Dear Katie : it is imperative that you make it into the final two candidates. adam schiff is constantly implying that all you do is talk while he gets things done. He makes a very big deal of him bieng on the January 6 Committee. Well you should point out that you could have done great things on that committee as much or more than Adam Shiff. but you were not appointed . Shiff is making himself out to be a big Trump fighting hero while you just sat on the sidelines. You can't let him get away with that . I want you as the next US senator from California. Don't let Shiff get away with anything . If he throws a fastball at your head throw two at his head

At <1% of spending, I see earmarks as net-positive waste, as far as they grease the wheels of getting things done. If it takes a tiny bit of frivolous spending in Alabama or South Carolina to pass good policy, I'd rather see that policy passed than not. If an earmark can "buy" the deciding vote on something like making the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent, or continuing aid to Ukraine, sign me up for earmarks.

I say this all as a persuadable California voter. Voted Porter in the primary because I'd prefer a Schiff/Porter run-off to a Schiff/Garvey run-off, but the opposition to earmarks is a sticking point to me, because it seems out of touch with the gritty business of doing politics effectively.

I’m afraid that earmarks, like all real answers to important questions, are complicated. While I know your position is well intended, the loss of earmarks has unfortunately been a major contributor to the division, contention, and paralysis in Washington. At best, earmarks are a strong negotiating tool that gives both parties incentive to support a major bill by showing the folks back home that they are specifically getting something they need. At worst it’s a minor waste of money… it’s not like that never happens with the government! The main thing it that earmarks foster inter-party cooperation and there are precious few things that do in the current congress.

Where are all the other Democrats that should be doing what you are doing??? I’m sick of them lying down and letting things just happen without questioning it. Biden finally got some balls and has been speaking out and I hope it makes a difference in the poles and the race!!!

Marley’s ghost’s shackles! Every Congress Critter (thank you, Jim Hightower) who demands and gets an earmark should also have another heavy link added to their shackle chain. That might slow down the corruption at least a little.
